A recent survey conducted on behalf of utility company ENGIE reveals overwhelming support for renewable energy sources among French residents, particularly those living near wind farms and similar facilities. Of those living close to renewable energy sites, 94% support clean power solutions, a notable increase from the 84% of the general French population. This finding challenges the perception of local opposition to renewable developments. The survey involved 12,029 participants and sheds light on shifting attitudes towards energy priorities.
The data indicates that nearly half of the French populace considers energy a top priority, with around 70% viewing it as very important. Furthermore, 62% believe the progress of renewable energy has been slower than desired, while 68% advocate for accelerated expansion over the next five years. ENGIE’s CEO Catherine MacGregor points to these results as evidence of growing public endorsement for eco-friendly energy sources, emphasizing the importance of robust communication strategies.
Despite the widespread support, participants express a need for clear, evidence-based information on aspects such as production capacity, reliability, and environmental impact of renewable energy. They request transparency covering the entire value chain, from the import of components to their recycling, underscoring the importance of ongoing public trust. By addressing these concerns and maintaining open communication, stakeholders can effectively bolster renewable energy growth in France.
