£4.26M Revamp to Boost Energy Efficiency in East Yorkshire Housing

August 19, 2024

A substantial £4.26 million energy efficiency initiative has been announced in East Yorkshire, set to fully refurbish two supported living developments—Meregarth and Pybus Court—in Hornsea. The project, which aims to lower energy costs and enhance the quality of life for residents, is scheduled for completion by spring 2025. The initiative will introduce thermal upgrades, sound insulation, modern internal finishes, and high-speed internet access to these properties, contributing to a more comfortable and efficient living environment for occupants.

Built in the 1970s, Meregarth will undergo a significant transformation as it is reconfigured into 14 one-bedroom flats. Similarly, Pybus Court, constructed in the 1980s, will be refurbished to feature 11 one-bedroom flats and two two-bedroom flats. During the construction period, which begins this September, residents will be temporarily relocated to ensure their safety and convenience. The upgraded accommodations are designed to be appropriate and fit for purpose, reflecting a commitment to modernizing supported housing to meet current standards.

Councillor Gary McMaster emphasized that these improvements align with broader efforts to enhance energy efficiency in older homes, ultimately lowering living costs for residents. This initiative is part of a wider strategy to revitalize aging housing stock, making it more sustainable and cost-effective. As energy costs continue to rise, such projects are increasingly important in providing affordable and comfortable living options for those in supported housing, ensuring that energy efficiency measures are in place to benefit both residents and the environment.
