Counterbalancing traditional, heavier silicon panels, these printed cells are created through a specialized process that disperses particular inks onto flexible plastic films. CSIRO, in conjunction with university collaborators, has successfully set a new record by attaining a 15.5% efficiency for small-scale devices and an impressive 11% for larger modules measuring 50 cm square. This leap forward in solar technology emerges as a reflective snapshot of modern advancements, potentially revolutionizing energy accessibility and deployment.

The efficiency of these novel printed solar cells is fortified through the integration of machine learning into their manufacturing routine. This synergy allows for the expedited production and assessment of more than 10,000 cells each day. Moreover, this integration also moves away from using costly materials like gold, replacing them with more budget-friendly, carbon-based inks, and thus significantly lowering the cost of production.
