A Union Boss And The Presidential Candidates Reflect On Coal’s Past, Present And Future

With the passing of Labor Day, national leaders are reflecting back on coal and what might be next for those who mined the commodity.

Unions have traditionally aligned with the Democratic Party, although the 2016 presidential elections changed those dynamics. If the national Democratic Party wants to win back the working class, a union boss is telling the presidential candidates that they must focus on job creation while they are pushing for solutions to climate change. To that end, those candidates are all firmly in the corner of environmental protection but are emphasizing that they would reinvest in regions hard hit by economic change.
