The energy transition has reached a tipping point. Net zero objectives are being passed into law across Europe and elsewhere – even China recently stated it aims to reach net zero by 2060. The private sector is acting too. For example, the RE100 (an organisation comprised of companies committing to purchase 100% renewable electricity) had its largest ever increase in membership in 2019, up by 33% to 260 companies. The Covid-19 crisis has, in much of Europe at least, re-affirmed commitments to achieve these goals – with billions of euros of stimulus money to be directed towards them. The energy transition has the wind in its sails and is accelerating.
