U.S. Energy Consumption Rises Even With Coal Decline

A new report by the Energy Information Administration indicates total energy consumption rose slightly in 2016 despite a 1.3 percent drop in coal use.

Coal consumption fell to 730 million short tons in 2016, the third consecutive year of decline. For the electric power sector, coal consumption fell by eight percent, or 61 million short tons.
