NRG Converts Four Coal Plants to Gas

NRG Energy announced the company has completed coal-to-gas conversions at four of its power plants.

NRG officials said the conversions were undertaken in order to meet customer needs while complying with environmental regulations and supporting NRG’s overall decarbonization efforts.

The converted facilities include:

The Big Cajun II Generating Station in New Roads, La., 30 miles northwest of Baton Rouge. One 540 MW unit was converted.

The Joliet Generating Station, 50 miles southwest of Chicago. All three units converted for a total of 1,326 MW.
