E-commerce giant Amazon is forging ahead with its plans to produce hydrogen fuel right at its sprawling network of fulfillment centers. In a strategic partnership with hydrogen technology company Plug Power, Amazon has initiated the installation of its inaugural electrolyzer at one of its fulfillment centers situated in Aurora, Colorado.
This cutting-edge electrolyzer is geared to produce fuel primarily for approximately 225 forklift trucks operating at the Aurora site. Plug Power asserts that its capacity extends to fueling up to a remarkable 400 hydrogen fuel cell-powered forklifts. This marks a significant departure for Amazon, as it signifies the first instance of the tech giant venturing into on-site hydrogen production, a move expected to have far-reaching implications.
