Maryland governor Wes Moore has signed into law Maryland House Bill 1296: Electricity – Offshore Wind Projects – Alterations, aimed at supporting the state’s goal of reaching 8.5 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2031.
This happened on Thursday last week when the governor signed a package of bills during the third bill signing ceremony of 2024.
Maryland House Bill 1296 calls for the state’s Public Service Commission to open a revised Round 2 offshore wind project proceeding, providing for the reallocation of the Offshore Renewable Energy Credits (ORECs) which were left outstanding following Ørsted A/S’ decision to abandon its OREC arrangements for the 966-MW Skipjack Wind development. This will enable developer US Wind Inc to renegotiate its agreements.
