Words Matter Mr. President: Tell The Truth About Coal’s Future

When the U.S. president makes his eighth speech in West Virginia, he should finally be honest with the citizens about the state of their economy and the direction that public policies should take. Words count. The economy globally is shifting ground and forcing people to make adjustments in their lives.

But Donald Trump won’t do that. He is a snake oil salesman, incapable of empathy. While Hillary Clinton may have botched her message, at least she had the guts to tell coal miners the truth: there are cleaner and cheaper fuels and consumers are demanding that their utilities generate electricity with them. Policies should thus help the displaced find new opportunities in long-lasting careers.
