Trump Ends Waiver Grace Period For Iran’s Oil Customers

Waivers that allowed certain countries to continue importing Iranian oil without penalty will end next month, leading to a game of chicken between the Trump administration and some of the world’s largest economies. According to the White House announcement on April 21, those granted import exemptions after the November 2018 sanctions will have until May 2 to cease purchases of Persian crude or face economic retribution against their dollar-denominated banking activities.
