The oil and gas sector is delicately poised, between a steady and profitable past and an increasingly uncertain future.
The imperative to tackle climate change means that companies are coming under greater pressure than ever before to reduce their emissions – which, given the nature of their business, means completely changing their business model. Some have already started to do this – Orsted, previously DONG (Danish Oil and Natural Gas), has sold off its fossil fuel assets and pledged to cut its emissions by 96% from 2006 levels by 2023 as it focuses on wind energy.
