How Policy Can Help to Expand US Nuclear Leadership

Sixty nuclear reactors are under construction around the world, as developing nations bolster their grids with nuclear plants that operate around-the-clock without emitting air pollutants. If the United States is to continue playing a positive and constructive role in this worldwide expansion, it must revive and expand its position as a global nuclear leader, says a new report, “The Role of Policy in Revising and Expanding the United States’ Global Leadership.”

The report says U.S. leadership is important to set and maintain global standards of safety, security, nonproliferation and efficiency. It concludes that policy “can and should play a role in maintaining and enhancing the United States’ nuclear leadership.”
