New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has touted an ambitious offshore wind development plan for months, though now that plan has a price — $3 billion.
Cuomo announced the price during a talk at New York University, Newsday reported.
The plan aims to develop 2.4 GW of offshore wind energy by 2030. Earlier this year, the governor’s office submitted 20 supplemental studies showing how the state plans to achieve that goal, including location studies, options for contracting projects, infrastructure details and environmental impacts. Among its findings is the identification of over one million acres at least 21 miles from shore that can support wind without having a visible impact on someone looking out from shore.
