GM Focuses on Energy Efficiency to Meet Emissions Goals

General Motors recently announced its plan to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2025.

At the recent 2017 SAE High Efficiency IC Engine Symposium in Detroit, executives from both GM and Ford discussed the importance of using technology developments for engine efficiency and long-term carbon dioxide emissions goals.

David Brooks, director for General Motors Global Propulsion Systems R&D, said GM is focusing on several initiatives related to gasoline engines, including:

Continued aggressive downsizing. Key enablers are advanced boost systems and increased knock tolerance — meaning more knock-resistant fuels.
