EU Beats U.S., Adopts Its Own Green New Deal

The European Commission today adopted a vast strategy to combat climate change over the next 30 years – a plan designed to make the European Union carbon-free by mid-century.

“This is Europe’s man on the moon moment” said Ursula Von Der Leyen, the new EU Commission President who took office at the start of this month, following the deal’s adoption.

“Our goal is to reconcile the economy with our planet, to reconcile the way we produce, the way we consume with our planet and to make it work with our people,” she added. “The old growth model is out of date and out of touch with our planet.”
