Cooper Nuclear Station still operational despite Nebraska flooding

The Cooper nuclear-powered generating station in Nebraska was still operating at full power Monday morning but still ready for a potential shutdown as flood reached record levels in the region.

Nebraska Public Power District has been preparing for the worst since Friday. Flooding along the Missouri River reached critical levels after a massive winter storm last week, according to Reuters.

Yet the nuclear power plant was still producing electricity despite the water creeping up all around it. Photos shown on the Facebook page of Col. Michael Manion, commander of the 55th Wing Air Force unit, showed flood waters on the Offutt base runway.
