Though coal use for electrical generation is expected to grow in the short-term, not every part of the country will experience growth in coal production.
Though overall coal production is expected to increase slightly through 2018, only the western region will experience significant growth, the Energy Information Administration reported. That area will rise from 407 million short tons in 2016 to 443 MMst in 2018.
